Peter Stefanovic and Channel 9 have mutually decided to part ways after 15 years.

Nine released a statement late on Tuesday afternoon saying Stefanovic has recently decided to explore new opportunities and is “looking forward to spending weekends with his wife”.

It comes after a turbulent year at Nine for Stefanovic, after an Uber driver aired a conversation between him and brother Karl to the media, in which the pair discussed other staff Nine staff members.

Peter has been a longstanding member of Nine News, both as a presenter and foreign correspondent, Weekend Today and 60 Minutes.

In the statement, he said: “I’ve had an amazing time at Nine being a foreign correspondent, News reporter and covering some amazing stories for 60 Minutes. I’ll miss my friends at Nine very much, it has been a huge privilege to work alongside so many great people.”

It comes after brother Karl’s much-publicised wedding to Jasmine Yarbrough in Mexico last weekend, which Peter and wife Sylvia Jefferies attended.
