‘People are losing their lives’ – RBTU calls for urgent safety measures after two pedestrian deaths

2GB Sydney Now has been told by drivers that the current safety systems are not working and are too slow after two people were killed by trams in two years.
Secretary of the Tram and Bus division of the RBTU, David Babineau, says it all comes down to time.
“If there’s going to be a lasting change here, and there has to be … we need these coupling points enclosed,” he told Clinton Maynard.
“People are losing their lives, we don’t care who is to blame, it needs to be fixed,” he added.
Sydney Now can also reveal that several staff have been told not to go public with their concerns.
“If you’re saying you shouldn’t talk about it because we’ve got a guy who’s coming back to work who really doesn’t want to relive it in the meal room … that’s one thing, but if you’re telling people they can’t talk about it … not in a million years would we support that,” he said.
