Pat Cummins tells Jim Wilson he had one request before being named Australian Test captain
Incoming Australian Men’s Test Captain Pat Cummins joined Jim Wilson to discuss his new role and Steve Smith being named vice captain.
Cummins told Jim Wilson he wanted Steve Smith as his vice captain.
“What more can you want in a vice captain, best batsman on the planet, ex-captain, great thinker, really well respected and regarded by the cricket community and us teammates,” he said.
“I am going to be leaning on him heaps.
“I am not only comfortable, I am excited, I am absolutely for it, that was my recommendation was that if I was Captain I want Steve beside me.”
Cummins told Jim Wilson the appointment was bittersweet.
“Tim is a great mate of mine and we really back him and he has been such a great leader for us,” he said.
“It has been a real shame to see what he has had to go through the last week.
“To get the opportunity, I feel privileged and honoured and above all else excited to get started.
“I want to make sure I play to my strengths and be me, I am a real people person, I love my teammates, it is the best part of cricket.”
