Paralympic power couple celebrate world record-breaking golden run

German-born Australian Paralympian Vanessa Low has claimed gold in the T63 women’s long jump, breaking the world record three times in the process.

As a fellow competitor, proud husband Scott Reardon was able to cheer her on, which Low told James Willis was “a huge advantage”.

“Having him there, [with] that smile on his face, him telling me with his eyes ‘just enjoy it and have fun’, it really calmed me.

“It made this experience even more special for me.”

Reardon told James their heartwarming post-event exchange, broadcast around the world, reduced him to “a blubbering mess”.

“It was pretty special to be able to be out there … and just kind of ride that wave of emotion with her.”
