Panthers CEO reacts to Grand Final announcement, Sports Minister praises move
Penrith Panthers CEO Brian Fletcher says he’s thrilled the NRL Grand Final is staying in Sydney.
It comes after Australian Rugby League Commissioner Peter V’Landys confirmed the showpiece event will be staying put on Thursday afternoon, despite a reported last-ditch $10 million bid from Queensland.
However the deal is for one year only, after which it could potentially move to another city.
“It’s great for all the fans in Sydney,” Mr Fletcher told Jim Wilson on 2GB Drive.
“New South Wales has 70 per cent of the clubs in the NRL so there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be played in Sydney.
“I know our players will be thrilled because they set themselves a goal to come back here and play in the Grand Final this year to repay our fans who weren’t able to watch them last year.”

NSW Sports Minister Alister Henskens said it was the right move.
“We obviously welcome the decision,” he said on 2GB Drive.
“The Rugby League Grand Final belongs in Sydney, there’s no doubt about that and we’re very delighted with the outcome.”
