Pandemic sees Aussies with mortgage ‘firepower’

An increase in household savings during the pandemic has seen more Australians paying off their mortgage at a faster rate.

Data shows households are, on average, almost four years ahead on their repayments.

Federal Housing Minister Michael Sukkar told Chris Smith it’s a good sign for economic recovery.

“There’s a whole lot of firepower sitting in mortgage account and other accounts.”
