Overwhelming customer demand prompts Telstra to make major call centre change

Mark Levy

All Telstra call centres are now back on Australian shores.

The company’s out-going chief executive made the commitment last year to ending offshore call centres for customers.

Telstra CEO Andy Penn says the change was made because “it’s what our customers want”.

“It took a bit of time to get there but … we took our last call from an Australian consumer on June 27.

“So now, if you’re an Australian consumer or small business customer, you’ll be speaking to someone in Australia.”

Telstra has employed an additional 2000 Australian workers to facilitate the change.
