Alleged Optus hacker backflips: What happened?

The alleged Optus hacker has abruptly apologised for the data breach in a new post.

The hacker has indicated they won’t release any more personal details after posting the information of 10,000 customers on the dark web today.

“Deepest apology to Optus for this,” the hacker wrote.

Ray Hadley says there are four things this could mean.

  1. The hacker is showing contrition.
  2. It’s a complete fabrication.
  3. Optus paid the ransom (which has been denied)
  4. A third party could have paid for the data.
