Lismore residents are finally set to receive a disaster recovery program from the federal government. 

One year ago residents were preparing for heavy rain and potential flooding.

Within a few hours, people’s homes and businesses were inundated and the water levels peaked at an unprecedented 14 metres.

Today, the Management Minister Murray Watt announced a $300 million disaster recovery program that will help rebuild Lismore’s infrastructure.

The State Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin told Deborah Knight that in terms of the four hundred displaced people in shells of houses, the government should have moved quicker.

“It’s clearly not fast enough,” Janelle Saffin said.
