Two people have been injured, one critically, after a car collided with a pole on the M4 at St Mary’s this afternoon.

Ambulance crews and a helicopter forced the temporary closure of one westbound lane near Mamre Road.

Two people in the vehicle have been transported by road to Westmead Hospital.

One person is in a serious condition, the other is critical.

The westbound lane has since reopened but the crash has caused major delays.

Traffic is queued back 17km.
