The NSW shadow cabinet will allow a conscience vote on the Voice. They can vote yes or no, and campaign for whatever they want.

Opposition Leader Mark Speakman joined Chris O’Keefe on 2GB Drive, discussing his stance on the Voice to Parliament and expressing concerns over New South Wales’ infrastructure funding.

Speakman highlighted that the circumstances surrounding the proposed referendum to establish an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice have changed since Dominic Perrottet signed a memorandum in support of the initiative. Speakman is awaiting the parliamentary committee’s outcome before taking a final position on the matter.

“I’m sympathetic to the idea of a voice. I think it can be an important part of nation-building, but there are matters of detail to be ironed out as well.”

“At the end of the day, it’s up to the community to decide what it wants to do about what’s basically a federal issue rather than state politicians.”
