NSW drivers could have their rego halved under new Toll Relief expansion

Article image for NSW drivers could have their rego halved under new Toll Relief expansion

More than 300,000 additional drivers stand to receive either half-priced or free vehicle registration from mid next year.

The state government is expanding its Toll Relief program to motorists who spend $15 a week or more on tolls.

Those who do will receive half-price vehicle registration from July 1 next year.

Currently, drivers who spend $25 a week receive free rego.

Opposition leader Michael Daley says he’ll scrap the newly announced expansion if elected.

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet tells Ben Fordham the government can afford the measures because of its strong economic position.

“The reality is Ben, you can’t provide this support if you’re not in a strong financial position.

“And you can’t forget that Michael Daley was the Finance Minister that left the state with debt and deficit.”

The eligibility of the scheme will also change, to allow multiple tags on one account to contribute towards Toll Relief.
