NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has shut down an idea to allow thousands of vaccinated NRL fans to gather for the Grand Final.

Venues NSW Chairman Tony Shepherd has suggested vaccinated fans be allowed to watch the NRL final at Redfern or Penrith Oval.

Mr Barilaro told Ben Fordham the government is not open to the idea.

“The idea that we can open a stadium up with thousands of people, especially when we wouldn’t have hit the 70 per cent double dose mark … the answer is no.

“It’s not worth the risk.”
