Climate activist Andrew George has had his sentence overturned in the Sydney District court.

George was convicted over his on-field protest during the Sharks and the Tigers NRL match earlier this month after running onto the field with a lit flare.

He has been behind bars since his conviction just under three weeks ago and has been bail-refused the entire time while waiting for this appeal.

The sentencing appeal was successful, and a new sentence of a six-month Conditional Release Order has now been imposed.

Jim said, “Our politicians can talk tough, but it’s up to the courts to actually enforce the new harsher penalties”.

“Now it’s been overturned, hardly an example of the courts meeting community expectations, don’t you think?”
