NRL Head of Football Graham Annesley says hip drop tackles have become more prevalent in recent times.

The tackle has been the subject of controversy to start the 2023 season so far with several players fined or suspended.

Darryl Brohman believes the tackles have been around forever but questioned why the game has only been cracking down on it since this year.

Annesley told The Continuous Call Team the tackle is part of the game but the officials are working to eradicate it.

“I think it has progressively got more prevalent,” Annesley said.

“Our job as administrators, when we think it risks player safety, is to try and reverse that trend.”
