One of the greats of Australian cricket has handed down his verdict on English captain Joe Root.

Former Test captain Ian Chappell told Mark Levy he stands by his reported criticism of Root.

“I don’t think he’s a very good captain, I think he’s an excellent batsman.

“I expect [Pat] Cummins to get better as he goes along … and in the end that’ll be a big difference between the two sides.”
