The Employment Minister is encouraging Australians to continue looking for work amid an employee shortage hitting multiple sectors.

GCG Turbos’ Brett Llyod had put a call out to 2GB listeners looking for work.

One man accepted the job, negotiated the salary, and then pulled out the day before he was due to start.

Employment Minister Stuart Robert told Ben Fordham “we need our nation working”.

“If you’re taking money from the Commonwealth it’s not some amorphous blob called the government, it’s the lady across the street who works hard.

“It’s their taxes that fund our welfare system.”
