‘Not as harmless as we think’: Dr Ross Walker reacts to paracetamol restrictions
Paracetamol could be restricted to two packets a person and be unavailable for those under 18.
The proposed regulations from from Therapeutic Goods Administration come in an effort to curb a rise in the misuse of the drug.
There were 3575 cases of intentional paracetamol poisoning reported last year to the NSW Poisons Information Centre.
Dr Ross Walker told Clinton Maynard paracetamol isn’t as harmless as many people think it is.
“I can understand why the government might limit the amount of packets people buy.
“You don’t want to be taking anymore than four paracetamol a day, it’s quite a dangerous drug in high does.”
