‘Noah’s Ark style flood’: Minister calls for Warragamba Dam to be raised to prevent future disasters
Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres has reiterated the importance of raising the walls of the Warragamba Dam.
The Minister told Ray Hadley if the wall is raised by 14 meters it would be beneficial for flooding situations in the future.
“This would substantially reduce the amount of water that flows early into the river system.”
Crediting research from the floods last year Mr Ayres said if the walls were raised now it could have reduced the flood peak.
“If you’re in one of those low lying areas … every single metre counts.”
“The difference in one meter of water could be the difference between whether your business is back up running next week or whether it’s back up running in six months time.”
