Late US President John F Kennedy’s daughter Caroline Kennedy has been named the nation’s next ambassador to Australia.

Lowy Institute Executive Director Michael Fullilove told Joe Hildebrand Ms Kennedy will bring more than a famous name to the role, being herself an accomplished diplomat.

“I think it is a signal of the esteem in which Australia is held in the Biden administration, so I think it’s good news.

“She has a rare ability for a US ambassador in Australia, which is she can get the President on the line.”
