New report finds invasive species is number one threat to Australia’s wildlife
A new report from CSIRO has found Australia is facing a wave of native extinctions unless urgent action is taken on invasive species.
Dr Andy Sheppard, Research Director of Health and Biosecurity at CSIRO, told Jim Wilson the problem is enormous.
“Australia is probably the only country in the world except for perhaps New Zealand where invasive species are the number one threat to biodiversity,” he said.
“It is exaggerated in urban and peri-urban areas, so around Sydney it will be even worse.
“Feral cats is very high on the political agenda nationally, as are foxes, feral pigs and deer… weed problems.”
