New Orleans goes dark as Hurricane Ida hits ‘like a freight train’

The city of New Orleans, Louisiana is in total blackout tonight after category four Hurricane Ida battered the US Gulf Coast.
Nine News US correspondent Michael Genovese described to Jim Wilson the “spooky and eerie” scenes on the ground, after returning to a hotel room lit only by a glowstick.
“We went for a drive around … and the only lights in the whole city were the headlights coming from our car.
“In the background, you’ve just got this constant roar of the wind; it sounds like a freight train just smashing through the city.”
