Neil Perry’s new Double Bay diner Margaret was named Best New Restaurant at Gourmet Traveller’s 2023 Restaurant Awards.

It was also named the NSW state winner of Restaurant of the Year.

Mr Perry told Joe Hildebrand the award came “from left-field”.

“I’ve won many awards in my career but I didn’t set out at all with this restaurant.”

The restaurant was named after his late mother, making the honour extra special.

“I thought last night that she would have been incredibly proud of what we’ve done in her name.”
