Nationals opposition to Indigenous Voice receives criticism

Joe Hildebrand

Nationals leader David Littleproud is facing criticism over the party’s opposition to the Indigenous Voice.

A referendum is scheduled for next year, designed to give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders a greater say over policy issues.

The Nationals will vote against the move, arguing it’ll do little to improve the life of indigenous people.

Quandamooka man and Director of the From the Heart campaign Dean Parkin told Joe Hildebrand it was a strange announcement from the Nationals.

“It’s concerning that you have the leader of a political party in parliament coming out and saying they won’t support a proposal, when the proposal hasn’t even been put to them.”
