MP warns of ‘catastrophe waiting to happen’ as rural roads remain in disrepair

Mark Levy

The Member for Orange has warned there will be serious crashes or loss of lives if a funding package is not created to repair rural roads.

A number of main thoroughfares remain peppered with potholes after heavy rain and floods earlier this year.

Philip Donato says the state of regional roads are “a catastrophe waiting to happen”.

“I’ve received numerous complaints from constituents in relation to tyre punctures, cracked and damaged rims, suspension damage,” he told Ray Hadley.

“There’s going to be a head-on because there’s vehicles swerving to miss these potholes.

“The government really needs to come to the party, both state and federally, to ensure local councils are sufficiently funded … to be able to properly repair these roads and potholes.”
