Former Newcastle Knights halfback Mitchell Pearce has left to join French Super League team the Catalans Dragons.

When making the call to leave the Knights, Pearce told Mark Levy he weighed up what would give him “the most stimulation” in his career.

“It was a really tough decision, but I needed to go somewhere that I was going to be mentally and physically 100 per cent and France was the best option for me.”

Asked if he’d consider returning to Newcastle in a coaching position, Peace said a move wouldn’t be out of the question after winning a competition with the Dragons.

“I definitely think I could offer something in and around halves coaching or assistant coaching roles.

“That’s definitely something I’d be passionate about, no doubt.”
