Tim Paine resigned as captain amidst a sexting scandal, despite having been cleared by an investigation four years ago.

However, Mitchell Johnson, Former Australian Test Cricketer, told WWOS that Tim Paine deserves to still play in the Ashes side.

“Still the best glovemen but a couple of guys are close behind him,” he said.

“He deserves to have that chance so I think he will play but it is just whether he can get through the other stuff of it, the mental stuff.”

Johnson told WWOS that it will be tough mentally for Paine.

“The Barmy Army have already got the songs ready and waiting, they do get to you, if I had any advice it would be to be really prepared for it and to try and block it out,” he said.

“I don’t know how he will do that.

“My problem was that I started singing all the songs because they are all catchy, that is the issue you have, you don’t realise at the time

“He is going to have to experience it to be honest. The only way you can deal with it is actually going through it unfortunately and they will give it to him.”

Candice Warner weighed in on the Tim Paine sexting scandal.

“They are basically saying that it is not okay for an Australian Cricket captain to send these messages but it is okay for an Australian player,” she told Mark Levy.

“As a wife of an Australian cricketer, it does make me worry.”
