Tragically, the search for 72-year-old Phong Luu, which commenced on Monday night in the Hawkesbury region, has ended with the discovery of his body.

The man was reported missing to the Fairfield City Police Area Command on Sunday (7 May 2023), and an investigation into his whereabouts was promptly initiated.

Following a confirmed sighting at Lower Portland at 11am on the same day, an extensive search was launched in the Hawkesbury area.

The search, which spanned three days, involved numerous volunteers and specialist agencies but sadly ended with discovery of the man’s body at Lower Portland at approximately 12.30pm today (Wednesday 10 May 2023).

Superintendent Andrew Garner told Ray that it was not the first time he’d gone missing. “He’s had some behaviours that are consistent with dementia, but he hasn’t been diagnosed,”
