The Financial Services Minister says government and industries need to acknowledge that cryptocurrency isn’t going away any time soon.

Australia has the third highest rate of cryptocurrency ownership in the world at 18 per cent, but many remain dubious.

Minister Jane Hume told Ben Fordham while crypto investments are risky and very volatile, “the technology is definitely here to stay”.

Would-be investors should listen to the government’s MoneySmart podcast on the topic, she advised.

“Blockchain technology isn’t a fad, and it isn’t going away.

“Australia should step forward on this cautiously … but not fearfully.”
