Minister says criticism of favourable flood disaster payments is ‘clearly wrong’

Michael McLaren

Minister of Energy Angus Taylor has hit back at claims that the government isn’t considering other flood-affected areas for disaster payments.

Stating that Lismore was the most affected area, the Minister told Deborah Knight, “What we saw in Lismore was a whole different thing with a 1 in 500-year flood”.

“That’s why there was some customised additional support.”

The comments come after areas including Ballina, Byron and Tweed were declared disaster zones after the major flooding but were ineligible for extra payments.
