The federal industry minister has criticised Australian gas companies for taking advantage of domestic consumers.

Ed Husic says gas exporters are carrying out a “glut of greed” scheme in the pursuit of more profits.

He told Deborah Knight gas prices are unsustainably high, and it’s being done deliberately.

“Gas exporters are offering prices to local companies which are a lot higher than what they get on the international market.”

Shadow treasurer Angus Taylor says the government have no strategy to deal with rising prices.

“Labor are all over the shop. They’re now talking about price caps and windfall taxes on companies.

“The best way to solve this problem is to get more gas into the domestic network.”
