Liberal Senator Michaelia Cash has been forced to withdraw a threat to reveal rumours about women in Opposition leader Bill Shorten’s office.

While being questioned during a Senate Estimates hearing, Michaelia Cash launched into a tirade about rumours involving the leader of the opposition leader and his female staff.

“If you want to start discussing staff matters, be very, very careful,” she warned.

“I’m happy to sit here and name every woman in Bill Shorten office which rumours in this place abound.

“If you want to go down that path today, I will do it.”

Ben Fordham speaks with 2GB Political Reporter Michael Pachi.

“I thought it was bizarre.

“She was being grilled in Senate estimates about staff movements in her own office.

Labor Senator Doug Cameron wanted to know how she came to hire her new Chief of Staff.

“She said if the opposition wanted to proceed with this line of questions, she would reveal rumours she’s heard about women in Bill Shorten’s office.

“It was basically a tense confrontation between Michaelia Cash and Labor Senator Doug Cameron.”

In her withdrawal, Senator Cash said, “if anyone has been offended by my remarks, I withdraw them.”
