Michael McLaren unpacks what the Liberals actually need to win over women
Michael McLaren has urged the Liberal Party to think twice about gender quotas and focus more on compelling policy.
The Afternoons host points out gender quotas don’t work and notes the first woman to lead the federal Liberal Party was undermined.
“If the Liberals just got on with the job of developing compelling policy that spoke directly to the millions of aspirational women across Australia who are looking for an alternative to the increasingly one-size-fits-all, anti-business agenda from Labor,” he said.
“But any suggestion that instigating quotas are part of the solution would only serve to reinforce in many former-Liberal voters’ minds that the party has become too easily attracted to cosmetic (rather than substantive) answers to the questions of the day,” he added.
