Michael McLaren has slammed the use of taxpayer money with the HomeBuilder grant to renovate homes instead of helping to stimulate the building of new homes.

He also criticised the government for not investing part of the grant into public housing as the waitlists grow.

“We’ve had a supply and demand crisis in public housing, the $2.6 billion that went to HomeBuilder could have addressed this,” he said.
