The makeshift memorial to murdered Melbourne woman Eurydice Dixon has been vandalised overnight.

Offensive markings including a “lewd symbol” were painted on the grass next to a pile of flowers which has appeared in her honour.

Police discovered the shocking vandalism during a routine patrol at about 4am this morning.

Eurydice was on her way home from a performance in the CBD when she was raped and and killed last Wednesday morning. 19-year-old Jaymes Todd has been arrested and charged over the attack.

Police have seized items left by the vandals and started investigations.

Firefighters, including some who attended the scene upon the discovery of Eurydice’s body, have spent this morning washing and scrubbing the graffiti away before daylight.

Around 20,000 people are expected to attend a vigil at the site at 5.30pm tonight.
