After South Sydney suffered multiple goal-kicking injuries during their win over the Bulldogs, fullback Matthew Dufty was unexpectedly asked to step up to the tee for the first time in years.

South Sydney’s 22-6 victory over the Canterbury Bulldogs took a bizarre turn when the side ran out of goal-kickers. With Lachlan Ilias already sidelined with a hamstring issue, replacement kicker Jye Gray twinged his groin during the match, forcing the Rabbitohs to search the field for anyone willing to take shots at goal.

Dufty revealed to the Continuous Call team that he was far from eager when teammate Cody Walker approached him to take over the kicking duties late in the game.

“The boys said to me, ‘Who’s kicking?’ I said, ‘I’m not kicking.’ And Cody comes up, he goes, ‘Oh, can you just have a shot?’ I was like, ‘I haven’t had a goal kick since I was like 16,'” Dufty said. “Everyone was laughing when I took the kick.”
