Sam Kerr is the breakout star of Australia’s women’s soccer team, the Matildas.

At 24 years of age, Sam has won a score of awards and played a big part in the team’s success last year.

She has now been honoured with the Young Australian of the Year award.

Sam tells Ben Fordham winning the award was a proud moment for her and her family.

“The rise of women’s football this year has just been unbelievable to be a part of. We’re just enjoying the ride, to be honest.”

Sam says she’s always loved sport and is looking forward to getting back into training.
