The federal Energy Minister has denied power prices are going up.

Inflation has reached a 20 year high, rising to 5.1 per cent for the first quarter of the year.

New data by the Energy Market Operator shows the cost of wholesale electricity has surged by almost 70 per cent in the March quarter.

But Energy Minister Angus Taylor told Deborah Knight “no one’s household power prices have gone up.”

“Mate, they are and it’s happening on your watch,” Labor MP Joel Fitzgibbon shot back.
