Queensland has defeated NSW 16-10 in the State of Origin opener in Sydney.

More than 80,000 fans turned out to watch the blockbuster clash at Sydney Olympic Park.

Jack Wighton opened the scoring for the homeside, before the Maroons took control with three tries.

Game Two in Perth is now a must-win for the Blues and will be played on Sunday June 26.
