Mark Levy blasts ‘light sentence’ of Sydney climate activist

Mark Levy

A climate activist who suspended themselves over a Port Botany rail corridor has been warned further illegal activity could see the 26-year-old in custody.

Emma Dorge was convicted in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday for obstructing railway locomotives or rolling stock.

Magistrate Miranda Moody placed Dorge on a 12-month conditional release order, to be of good behaviour, and imposed fines totaling $330.

Mark Levy blasted the light sentencing, saying a tougher penalty is needed to deter climate activists from causing trouble.

“It’s pathetic. It’s not good enough.

“What’s it going to take to get these people locked up and get sent a message?  I have no doubt this troublemaking young protestor will be back at it again.”
