Australia will build nuclear submarines under a new defence pact, but nuclear power remains illegal in Australia.

The pact between the US, UK and Australia, known as AUKUS, includes Australia developing a nuclear submarine capability.

NSW One Nation leader Mark Latham told Ben Fordham there’s a hope the nuclear ban will be lifted.

“It would be a massive inconsistency to say, for our national security we can have nuclear-powered submarines, but for our energy security in Australia, we can’t create our electricity through nuclear power.”
