A 44-year-old local man is in critical condition after being bitten in the foot by a shark at Lighthouse Beach in Port Macquarie. 

It is understood that the man tried to paddle back to shore after the bite, which caused the shark to attack once more.

Nine News’ James Wilson has confirmed that the man has just been airlifted to hospital.
