A man has been badly injured in a house fire in Sydney’s south last night, which police say he started himself.

Just before 6pm, paramedics were called to a home on Mawson Street at Bardwell Valley for routine checks on a man.

When they arrived the 41-year-old allegedly became aggressive, forcing crews to call for urgent police assistance.

It’s understood the man jumped out of a window, grabbed an accelerant, then went back inside and deliberately set fire to the home.

Firefighters arrived and managed to extinguish the blaze which had damaged the front of the home.

Paramedics treated the man for significant burns to his arms and legs before rushing him to St George Hospital, where he remains in an induced coma.
