A man in Germany has been formally identified as a suspect in connection with the disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann almost 15 years ago.

Previous reports the man had been charged have been denied.

Madeleine went missing from her family’s holiday apartment in the Portuguese holiday resort of Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007, a few days before her fourth birthday.

German police revealed two years ago they were investigating a German man who was already behind bars.
