A man has been charged with trying to murder his bedridden mother in Sydney’s west.

The 36-year-old went to her home on Gallop Grove at Lalor Park at about 11.30pm on Wednesday to ask for money.

When the 64-year-old said she didn’t have any, her son allegedly used a pillow to try and smother her to death.

The woman managed to activate her medical alert bracelet, with police and emergency services arriving a short time later.

She suffered a number of injuries and was rushed to Blacktown Hospital.

Her son was arrested at the scene and has now been charged with attempted murder by suffocation.

He’s been refused bail and will face court today.
