Locals furious over a decade of garbage collection nightmares

Article image for Locals furious over a decade of garbage collection nightmares

Residents in the Canterbury-Bankstown council are furious because they’ve noticed garbage trucks mixing yellow-bin recycling with red-bin garbage.

The garbage truck then dumps it all in the same compartment in the same truck.

The council says this only happens on narrow streets where it’s too hard for the trucks to turn around.

Mayor of Canterbury-Bankstown Khal Asfour told Jim Wilson it has been going on for 10 years but an investigation will be done.

CEO of Australia Council of Recycling Suzanne Toumbourou is in disbelief and feels sorry for the ratepayers.

“This is not a normal practice by a local government.”
