The Greens have said if they come into power, they’ll legalise cannabis.

“This ultimately becomes both an economic and social question,” says Ross Greenwood.

But Australian Medical Association President Doctor Tony Bartone warns about rushing to join other countries in the legalisation of cannabis.

His views are based on the potential harms to society and users.

“We know that there’s an increase in tolerance in the community towards the use of cannabis, especially as a potential medicinal compound.”

“It really is a question of, let’s slow down, let’s look at the evidence.

“There are a number of risks which can’t be managed or can’t be reduced simply by making it legal.”
