‘I’m not going to be treated like a mug’: Transport Minister explains local manufacturing push

Article image for ‘I’m not going to be treated like a mug’: Transport Minister explains local manufacturing push

The NSW Transport Minister says local manufacturing will make it easier to hold businesses to account when something goes wrong.

Trams running on the second stage of the Parramatta Light Rail will be required to be built in Australia.

Transport Minister David Elliott has ordered bureaucrats to only consider Australian manufacturers.

He told Mark Levy it wasn’t a hard decision.

“I’m not going to be treated like a mug.

“I’m going to make sure if we’re sending taxpayers money … I want to make sure the taxpayers have right of reply if somebody doesn’t do the job properly.
