Latham comments on Shorten’s chances in the next election

Article image for Latham comments on Shorten’s chances in the next election

Mark Latham tells Ben Fordham it would be ‘cruel’ to cut Opposition leader Bill Shorten’s chances at the next election.

Based on recent Newspoll figures, it’s more likely Liberal or National Party voters will vote for Labor if frontbencher Anthony Albanese is in charge.

“The worst aspect of these polls is when they ask the other side of politics what they think of our current leader, well they say he’s always crap.”

“It’s not legitimate polling and it’s not very good analysis.”

Mark admits Bill Shorten deserves credit.

“I’m not a huge Shorten fan but I will say this about him.

“He took over in 2013 when Labor was an absolute ramble after the whole Gillard/Rudd era and he has given them unity, he has given them a pretty good result at the last election.

“I would’ve thought out of fairness, most of the caucus members would think he deserves to go to the next election.

“It’d be pretty cruel to cut him off now.”
