There’s a last ditch effort to save the historic Macquarie Ice Rink from the wrecking ball.

The rink is set to be knocked down after 39 years at Macquarie Shopping Centre in Ryde, making way for retail development.

It comes just a year after the operators of the rink spent millions of dollars the facilities.

More than 10,000 signatures have been collected in an effort to save site from demolition.

Local resident Olivia Arton tells Luke Grant the rink means a lot to the local community.

“Childhood memories, a favourite sport or favourite leisure.

“It holds the memories of so many people.

“I believe that we can stop this, we can fight back. This community is strong.”
